Use the information below to help troubleshoot issues with a Briggs & Stratton PowerProtect Standby Generator. This page provides common troubleshooting steps. If you are uncomfortable working with electricity or fuel, please contact a qualified service technician.

Controller Alarms

An alarm condition occurs when a configured parameter on the generator is outside of tolerance. The Alarm LED on the Controller will start blinking and the generator Status LED may also start blinking.

Push the up and down arrows simultaneously to clear an alarm.

Alarm Types

There are three, (3) types of alarms on the GC-1030 series Controller:

  • NOTIFICATION = Controller will display a message on the display screen, and will not affect the generator start/stop operation; unit still operational.
  • WARNING = Allows the unit to finish running, if it is currently operating, and prevents any further attempts to run until the warning alarm is acknowledged.
  • SHUTDOWN = The generator is immediately stopped.

Event Log

The GC-1030 Series Controller will store up to 100 events in an event log. Follow these instructions to access the event log from the controller:

  1. Press Stop/Config to enter Manual Mode
  2. Press and hold Stop/Config to begin accessing the Configuration settings
  3. Press Stop/Config to access Configuration in Read Mode
  4. Press and hold the up and down arrows simultaneously
