Residential Inverter from Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions Receives UL 1741-SB

MILWAUKEE, WI (March 04, 2024) – The SimpliPHI 6kW Hybrid Inverter from Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions has received UL 1741-SB certification. The residential inverter finalized its IEEE 1547.1-2020 testing and is in compliance with new requirements in the California Public Utilities Commission Rule 21.3 for grid interconnectivity, protection and support. UL 1741 sets a series of safety tests and performance requirements that inverters must meet to ensure that they are safe and reliable for use in renewable energy systems. These tests cover a range of factors, including electrical and mechanical safety, performance and efficiency, and protection against environmental hazards such as fire, shock, and electromagnetic interference.

“As solar and battery adoption continues to grow, our smart inverter brings another layer of safety and stability to grid operators across the country,” says Sequoya Cross, vice president of energy storage for Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions. “For more than a decade, our LFP batteries, which are designed and engineered in the United States, have been proven to run cooler for longer, delivering advanced-level power storage for homeowners and businesses.”

The SimpliPHI 6 kW Inverter has rapid shutdown, arc fault protection, PV reverse polarity protection, ground fault monitoring, residual current monitoring, insulation resistor detection, overcurrent protection and short circuit protection. It is scalable up to six inverters or a total of 30 kWh of power, has integrated MPPT charge controllers with two inputs with two strings each and is IP65 rated.

Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions draws on 115 years of experience in power generation to meet today's evolving energy needs with a complete line of prime and backup energy products, including Energy Storage Systems (ESS) and standby generators.

The company’s cobalt-free, LFP batteries are designed and engineered in Oxnard, California, have been used in installations around the world since 2010 and come with a 10- or 15-year limited warranty1. The SimpliPHI 4.9 kWh2 Battery is UL 1642, UL 1973, UN 3480, UL 9540A fire safety tested and UN DOT 38.3 certified. It is certified to be installed in UL 9540 systems.

In 2022, SimpliPHI was one of just three ESS to receive a Certificate of Approval (COA) from the Fire Department of New York (FDNY). The COA is significant since New York has some of the most stringent fire safety rules for energy storage systems anywhere in the world. Since they produce very little heat and have a reduced risk of thermal runaway, SimpliPHI batteries don’t require additional fire suppression systems or cooling or ventilation measures beyond what is recommended by installation instructions and local rules and regulations.

In addition, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently designated Briggs & Stratton Energy Solutions an approved California Manufacturer. The company is one of only five manufacturers with this distinction, which benefits California residents by allowing an additional 20% incentive for the state’s Self-Generation Incentive Program (SGIP).
