What is EnergyTrak and how is it different from InfoHub?

EnergyTrak is an IoT (Internet of Things) platform and mobile app developed by Briggs & Stratton. It provides advanced monitoring and control for both their energy storage systems (ESS) and compatible standby generators. It gives homeowners and professionals real-time information about their battery status, energy usage, and generator health.

InfoHub is a legacy platform for remote monitoring and management of standby generators. EnergyTrak is the new, unified platform that offers a more comprehensive solution, including the ability to monitor both batteries and generators in a single app.


What kind of connectivity does EnergyTrak use?

EnergyTrak uses different hardware and connectivity methods depending on the equipment being monitored:

  • For Briggs & Stratton® Batteries (SimpliPHI® and AmpliPHI™):
    • The system uses an ET-GWY-10 gateway device to connect to the internet.
    • This gateway can be connected to your home network via an Ethernet cable (recommended) for a reliable, hardwired connection, or via Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz or 5 GHz) for a wireless connection.
    • An internet connection is required for the app to function properly, including for real-time monitoring and automatic firmware updates.
  • For Standby Generators:
    • The EnergyTrak Universal Kit is required to enable monitoring for compatible Briggs & Stratton standby generators.
    • This kit includes a cellular device that connects to the generator.
    • It provides its own cellular connectivity to transmit data, which means it does not rely on a Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection at your home. This ensures monitoring can continue even during a power outage when your home's internet may be down.
