East Texas Generators is a family-owned company serving homeowners and businesses with backup power.
ETG, as it’s known, has offered Briggs & Stratton home standby generators for more than a decade.
"95% of the generators we sell are Briggs & Stratton," says Shannon Smith, general manager with ETG. "We like Briggs because they provide the best standard warranty in the business and they have voltage monitoring, which can protect against low or high voltage. That being said, I’m most impressed that they’ve figured out a way to produce the same power with either propane or natural gas for their 22kW and 13kW gensets."

Last year, ETG expanded its offerings and added Briggs & Stratton batteries. The first opportunity to install the new SimpliPHI® 6.6 batteries was customer driven.
ETG’s customer already had a backup generator but wanted another layer of power protection as well as a more instantaneous switchover to backup power. The customer’s wife works from home and she must have uninterrupted Internet connection at all times.
Smith led the battery installation project.
"Since we’re new to batteries, we reviewed the training package and then did onsite training with Nathan Heston from Briggs & Stratton," says Smith. "When we had questions during the install, we connected with Nathan and he was able to walk us through everything. It was fantastic to have him as a resource we could count on."
According to Smith, the customer loves the three-stack of Briggs & Stratton SimpliPHI 6.6 batteries.
"Our customer used to work with the power company so he understands the technology and enjoys monitoring his power and battery usage," says Smith.
Since the initial battery installation, ETG has worked with a number of homeowners who are living off grid.
"Our customers like the independence that a robust power system gives them,” says Smith. “Since many of them have homes in remote locations, they’re using solar panels, battery storage and standby generators to meet all of their energy needs."
