Oak Electric Service, Inc. is a full-service company in the Detroit Metro Area that offers solar power, battery backup, standby generator and EV charging station installation, as well as “traditional” electrical services.
The company has been installing Briggs & StrattonⓇ generators for more than 20 years.
“I like the availability of the Briggs product because some vendors have long wait times to get equipment. I also prefer that it is an American company that has been around for over 100 years.”
Jeremy Zinn, master electrician/director of sales for Oak Electric Service
In 2023, Oak Electric added Briggs & Stratton batteries to its portfolio and started with a test installation at Zinn’s house of three Briggs & StrattonⓇ PHITM batteries with 15 kWh of power.
Oak Electric has been installing Briggs & Stratton’s new SimpliPHIⓇ 6.6 batteries. Michigan’s winter weather influenced which battery Zinn selected.
“It’s a big deal for us that the Briggs & Stratton battery can go outside and has a full operating/discharging rate as cold as -20 ºC. In many parts of the country, installing batteries indoors is becoming prohibitive because of all the restrictions that are being put into place. That’s why it’s important to have a battery that’s UL 9540 compliant, outdoor-rated and can function when it gets really cold – without the need for a warming pad."

For Oak Electric technicians, installation of the SimpliPHI 6.6 batteries has been intuitive and simple. The team recently completed installations at homes in Novi and White Lake.
“The techs love how easy it is to commission compared to other brands.”

At his own home, Zinn appreciates being able to use stored solar power from his batteries for nighttime use.
“Our local utility only gives us about half of what the electricity is worth so storing my energy to use at night gets me the full value of the energy.”
